World Earth Day is coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and is celebrated in more than 193 countries.
The day will celebrate its 50th year Anniversary when people all over the world will be taking an oath to protect and nurture the environment.

World Earth day 2020: Digital Celebration
As people have to stay inside their homes amid COVID-19 lockdown, World Earth Day 2020 is all set to be celebrated digitally. People who plan on participating can join ’24 hours of action’ by going on the website.

One can also take 22 challenges that include measuring your carbon footprint, doing a plastic audit, skype a scientist, work for the earth, zero waste for one day and consume 1 meal per day this week of a plant-based diet.
G-20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting:
G20 nations resolve to ensure food security, safety amid COVID-19 pandemic
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar participated in the G-20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting that addressed the COVID-19 impact on food security, safety and nutrition.
Background: The G-20 Agriculture Ministers virtual meeting was organized by Saudi Arabia, which is the President of the group for this year. The meeting was organised to discuss the ways and means of ensuring continuity of food supply value chain including the livelihood of farmers.
The extraordinary meeting was attended by Agriculture Ministers from all the G-20 member nations, some guest nations and international organizations.
The G20 is made up of 19 countries and the EU. The 19 countries are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US.
G-20 Extraordinary Agriculture Minister’s Meeting was held on April 21, 2020 to address the impact of COVID-19 on nutrition, food security and safety.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar represented India at the virtual meeting.
The G-20 agriculture ministers accepted a declaration at the conclusion of the meeting. The G20 nations resolved to work towards building international cooperation amid COVID-19 outbreak to avoid food wastage and losses, maintain the continuity of food supply value chain across borders.
They also agreed to jointly promote research, responsible investments, innovations and reforms, which will help improve sustainability and resilience of agriculture and food systems.

Karnataka government has launched “Apthamitra” helpline and App to fight COVID-19. The helpline number “14410” will cover residents in all parts of the state. The helpline will function from 8 am to 8 pm. The helpline centre’s will be set up at six locations in Mysore, Bengaluru and Mangalore.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps confirmed on April 22, 2020 that Iran has successfully launched its first-ever military satellite into the orbit. The satellite launch comes amid heightened tensions with the United States over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Gujarat has launched the third phase of its ‘Sujalam Sufalam Jal Sanchay Abhiyan’ aming COVID-19 lockdown. The scheme will continue till June 10, 2020. The scheme was first launched in 2018 by Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani to create water-grid, on the lines of power-grid, for reuse of the treated waste water from urban areas.
