In India, there are 32 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and more than 20 Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs). These premier research and education institutes admit PhD scholars in two sessions. Now Admission for Semester I of 2024-25 session has commenced.
As on 21 March 2024, there are Three NITs and Two IIITDMs have announced PhD Admission for Semester I 2024-25. These institutes offer attractive fellowships, popularly known as Institute Fellowships.

GATE Not Mandatory: NIT Warangal Announces PhD Admission July 2024 with Institute Fellowships
Warangal, 19 March 2024: National Institute of Technology (NIT ) Warangal, an Institute of National Importance, has announced PhD Admission for July 2024 session. The PhD Programs, in Full-time (FT) and Part-time (PT) modes, are offered in 13 departments of the institute.
Fellowships: The candidates selected for admission into PhD under Full-Time program are eligible to receive institute fellowship as per Ministry of Education, (former MHRD) rules. Category-wise (EWS, OBC, SC, ST, PWD) reservations on overall available seats will be followed as per Government of India norms.

NIT Calicut Announces PhD Admission July 2024 with Institute Fellowships
Calicut, 17 March 2024: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut, an Institute of National Importance, has released PhD Admission notification for Monsoon Semester (July) Admissions 2024.
Types of PhD:
Scheme I: Full-time registration with Institute Fellowship or other Govt. Fellowships like CSIR-UGC JRF/KSCSTE/INSPIRE etc.
Scheme II: Full-time registration under the Self-Sponsored category
Scheme III: Full-time registration for candidates sponsored from Industry or other organizations including Educational Institutions
